Outbreak of avian influenza/bird flu

An outbreak of avian influenza has been detected in a flock of laying hens in the municipality of Poseritz (Bergen auf Rügen district) with around 55,000 hens. The result has now been confirmed by the Friedrich Loeffler Institute. The highly pathogenic influenza A virus H5N1 was detected in this case.
