Dear Citizens, During the months of March and October, many residents are busy tidying up their gardens and allotments and disposing of plant waste. Sometimes the easiest and quickest decision is to burn the plant waste. But is this really allowed?
The relevant regulations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern clearly emphasise that plant waste must be disposed of by composting on the land on which it is produced or handed over to the disposal system specified by the respective waste statutes. Only if this is not possible or unreasonable may plant waste from non-commercial garden plots be incinerated in exceptional cases.
This exceptional authorisation must be applied for from the district of Vorpommern-Rügen.
In many places in the district, it is also possible to hand over plant waste to composting facilities or the local waste disposal company.
