The mapping of stopover birds is a form of ‘gap mapping’. Based on existing data, gaps in the data have been identified, which are to be specifically addressed as part of the current mapping exercise.
The target species for the commissioned migratory bird survey are essentially those listed in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania State Ordinance on Natura 2000 Sites for the respective bird sanctuary. The populations of migratory birds are recorded on bodies of water and on agricultural land within the area.
The survey requires a walk through areas that are likely to harbour resting bird populations, or from which potential resting birds can be clearly observed using binoculars and a spotting scope.
The surveys will take place between mid-July 2026 and mid-June 2027. During this period, the contractor is to carry out site visits in the middle of each month. These site visits will generally be carried out by individuals. They will carry a letter of confirmation of the contract issued by StALU VP. StALU VP asks all landowners, tenants and other users to support the work and to grant the staff of the aforementioned contractor access to the land.
