Requesting information from the population register

  • Short text

You can find the current address of the person you are looking for using the electronic enquiry in the service portal or by requesting information from the registration office.

  • Full text

By providing information via the service portal or the registration office, you can find the person you are looking for in the population register if the identity of the person can be clearly established on the basis of your details.

As part of a simple registration register enquiry, you will receive information about the person you are looking for:

    • Family name,
    • First names with labelling of the common first name,
    • Doctoral degree and
    • current addresses.

If the person is deceased, you will be informed.

Simple information from the register of residents will not be provided if the person sought cannot be clearly identified or if an information block has been entered for them in the register of residents.

  • Basis for action(s)

  • Required documents

    • at least 3 details of the person you are looking for:
      • Family name or former family name and
      • at least one first name and
      • a complete (previous) address or
      • two further details (e.g. date of birth, place of birth, gender)
    • If the information is provided for commercial purposes, these purposes must be stated.
    • Declaration that the requested data will not be used for the purposes of advertising or address trading
  • Prerequisites

    • The person you are looking for must be clearly identifiable on the basis of your details. This means that you must already have data on the person you are looking for. This is usually the first and last name, date of birth, gender or a complete (previous) address.
    • If you request the data for commercial purposes, you must specify this.
    • You must declare in the enquiry that you will not use the data for the purposes of advertising or address trading.
    • The person in question must not be subject to an information block or a conditional blocking notice in the register of residents.
  • Costs (fees, expenses, etc.)

Costs are incurred. These vary depending on the type of information requested.

    • EUR 2.60 (automated information on the population register via the service portal)
    • EUR 4.50 (post-processing of a negative automated registration information request)
    • EUR 8.00 (simple information from the registration office)
    • EUR 10.00 (extended information from the registration office)

In individual cases, the registration office may charge additional fees (e.g. for archive information).

  • Procedure

    1. electronic query

You can use the state government's service portal to electronically query the addresses of residents of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in accordance with the provisions of Sections 44 and 49 of the Federal Registration Act.

The search queries as well as the search answers are only provided in this portal. You will not receive any notification by email. It usually only takes a few seconds to answer the search queries.

To make a search enquiry, you must first register for the service portal. If you do not yet have a user account, the following options are available for registration:

    1. Online ID function of your ID card
    2. EU identity (not German)
    3. ELSTER certificate
    4. User name & password (you will need a valid email address for this)

In order to provide information, the person concerned must be clearly identified in the population register. This requires information on the surname (or a previous surname), at least one corresponding first name and a ( possibly previous) full address of the person you are looking for. If you do not have an address, two other pieces of data about the person you are looking for are sufficient instead, for example the date of birth, place of birth and gender. The data for requesting simple information from the register of residents is described in Section 49 (4) and (5) of the Federal Registration Act. If the person you are looking for can be clearly identified on the basis of this data, you will receive the information within a few seconds. If the person cannot be found or if there is an information block or a conditional blocking notice, you will receive neutral information.

The fee for the information is EUR 2.60 per search. The fee is also charged if the person you are looking for is not found or if you already know the information provided. If the enquiry is not followed up manually, an additional fee of EUR 4.50 per search will be charged. The fees incurred can be paid by credit card (Visa or Mastercard) or PayPal.

    2. personal or written enquiry at the registration office

You can also apply in person or in writing to the relevant registration office for simple information on the population register. The fee in these cases is 8 euros per search. If you apply in person, you will be given the data on the spot. If you apply in writing, you will receive the data by post. Please contact the registration authority in whose area of responsibility you require information.

  • Processing time

The electronic information is provided after a few seconds.

  • Forms

Attention! To be able to use the automated information service, you must first register as a user in the service area. If you do not yet have a user ID, you must first register once on the portal. Once you have registered on the portal, you will automatically receive user rights for all other services that require registration.
