Apply for a travelling trade licence

If you work as a showman, "travelling salesman" or owner of a market stall, i.e. if you offer your services or goods at constantly changing locations, you are operating a travelling trade. To do this, you need a travelling trade licence.
You must carry this with you when carrying out your activity and present it to the authorised representative of the local competent authority on request. As an employer, you must hand out a duplicate or a certified copy of the travelling trade licence to employees in your business who have direct customer contact without your presence or who work at a different location to you.If you as an EU citizen are only temporarily active across borders, you do not need a travelling trade licence.

Required documents
- Extract from the register of co-operatives or extract from the commercial register
- Certificate of good conduct for submission to authorities
- Proof of showman's liability insurance
- Extract from the central trade register GZR
- Certificate in accordance with the Infection Protection Act (only if offering food for sale with the exception of fruit and vegetables)
- Tax clearance certificates from the tax office
- Business registration (confirmation)
The competent authority may request further documents in individual cases.

Anyone wishing to operate a travelling trade requires a permit (travelling trade licence). The travelling trade licence may be restricted in terms of content, issued with a time limit and subject to conditions, insofar as this is necessary to protect the general public or consumers. Under the same conditions, the subsequent inclusion, amendment and addition of conditions is also permitted.

The competent authorities are the independent cities, the large towns belonging to the district as well as the authorities and independent municipalities in which the person concerned has or will have his habitual residence or the company has its registered office.
Supporting institutions
Chambers of industry and commerce, chambers of skilled trades, districts and independent cities, the responsible local authority or the administration of the independent municipality provide support with the application.
