Electronic proof of identity: activate retrospectively

The citizen can declare in writing to the identity card authority at any time (during the validity of the identity card) whether the use of electronic proof of identity is desired. The ID card authority will then subsequently switch on the electronic proof of identity function.
Basis for action(s)
Required documents
- the current (child's) identity card or valid (child's) passport or birth certificate
- for children under the age of 16, a declaration of consent from a parent or guardian
- if there is only one parent or legal guardian, additional proof of custody
- a biometric passport photo (according to the photo sample table)
Prerequisites
- German within the meaning of Article 116 (1) of the Basic Law (GG)
- Registered in the municipality with main residence
