Registration details: Submitting an objection to specific data transfers

  • Full text

The Federal Registration Act permits registration authorities, in certain cases, to pass on registration data to recipients specified by law. You have the right to object to the passing on of your registration data without giving any reasons. If you object, your registration data will not be passed on.

To do this, you must lodge an objection with the local registration office.

The objection remains valid until you withdraw it.

Under the Federal Registration Act, you may object to the disclosure of your registration details in the following cases without giving reasons (restriction on disclosure):

    • to religious organisations recognised under public law, provided that, as a family member of a member, you do not belong to the same religious organisation recognised under public law or to any such organisation.
    • to political parties, voter groups and other bodies submitting lists of candidates in connection with elections and referendums,
    • to elected representatives, the press or the broadcast media on the occasion of birthdays or wedding anniversaries,

You may object to any or all of the data transfers listed. The registration authority will enter the relevant transfer restrictions in the register of residents. You do not need to give a reason for your objection, and it remains valid until it is withdrawn.

You should submit your objection to the registration office for your sole residence or main residence. If you have more than one residence, you may need to lodge your objection with other registration offices as well.
