Deregister secondary residence

If you move out of a secondary residence and do not move into another residence in Germany, you must deregister for this residence.
Basis for action(s)
- § Section 17 (2) of the Federal Registration Act (BMG)
- § Section 21 (4) of the Federal Registration Act (BMG)
- § Section 24 (1) of the Federal Registration Act (BMG)
- Number 44 General Administrative Regulation on the Revision of the General Administrative Regulation on the Implementation of the Federal Registration Act (BMGVwV)
Required documents
Confirmation from the landlord
Existing identity documents (identity card and / or passport)
Prerequisites
In the case of persons under the age of 16, care must be taken to ensure that they are deregistered by the person from whose home they are moving out.
Deadlines
You must deregister from the secondary residence within 2 weeks of moving out. You can deregister the week before you move out of the flat.
Responsible office
The registration office of the municipality or city of the then sole residence or the main residence, if you have other residences.
