eID card: Apply for a change of address
Full text
If your address changes, you must also have your address changed on the chip of your eID card.
If you have a home in Germany, the change of address on your eID card will be made by the registration authority responsible for you at your main place of residence together with the registration of your new home.If you do not live in Germany, the diplomatic mission abroad in whose district you usually reside is responsible for changing your address abroad.
Your address is only changed on the chip of your eID card because no address is printed on the card itself.
The eID card does not become invalid because the current address is not stored on the chip.Basis for action(s)
