Electronic proof of identity: Apply for a change of address

If the electronic identity card (online ID function) is activated on your ID card and your address changes, you must also have your address changed on the chip of your ID card.

The electronic proof of identity is the online ID function of your ID card, which you can use, for example, to complete digital administrative procedures or identify yourself online at online retailers.

To change the address on the chip of your ID card, you must visit the registration office responsible for you at your new place of residence in person. As proof of your new address, you must present your official registration confirmation and the landlord's confirmation of residence.

If you have registered your new place of residence electronically, your new address will be automatically transferred from the residents' register to the chip in your ID card.

• Your identity card is valid.
• You have activated the online function of your ID card.
• You have a current registration confirmation and the landlord's confirmation of residence as proof of your change of address.

The following requirements apply to the online service:

• You are of legal age.
• You are not married and do not have a registered civil partnership.
• You move into your new home without underage children.
• You have a valid ID card or a valid eID card with an activated online ID function and personal identification number (PIN).
• You have an NFC-enabled smartphone or a USB card reader.
• You have installed the ID card app2 on your smartphone.
• You have an M-V user account.

To change the address of your electronic proof of identity, you must visit the registration office responsible for you at your new place of residence in person.

You present your valid identity card, your official registration confirmation and the confirmation from your landlord.
Your competent authority will save your new address on the chip of your ID card.

If your address has changed due to an electronic registration of residence, your new address will be automatically transferred from the residents' register to the chip in your ID card.
