The purpose of street cleaning is to keep the road network of cities and municipalities clean and ensure that it is passable and accessible. Street cleaning for neighbouring residents is regulated in the street cleaning statutes of the respective municipality. Municipalities can impose the cleaning obligation on residents. However, they can also carry out the street cleaning themselves and in this case charge the residents for the costs incurred.
