Application to attend a primary school that is not locally responsible

Pupils are usually enrolled at the local school, i.e. the school in whose catchment area they live.

For good cause, the responsible body of the local school may authorise attendance at another primary school or another vocational school, in particular if:

• the relevant school can only be reached with considerable difficulty due to transport conditions and accommodation in a boarding school or hall of residence is not possible,
• attendance at another school would make it considerably easier for the pupil to develop special interests or skills or to fulfil their vocational training or employment obligations, or
• special social circumstances exist.

Attendance at a non-local primary school requires the consent of the receiving school authority. The highest school authority is the appeal authority with regard to attendance at another primary school.
