B 196: Date set for road resurfacing between Süllitz and Sellin (information letter)

Due to damage, the B 196 will be gradually repaired over the coming years. Work will begin on 19 October 2026 on a section just under 700 metres long between Süllitz and Lancken-Granitz. As no diversion is possible, the roadworks will take place only at night and will involve a full road closure. During the day, this section of the road will remain open to traffic. Work on the B 196 between Süllitz and Sellin will begin at the junction with the L 29 towards Putbus and will extend for a distance of around 700 metres towards Lancken-Granitz.

The works are divided into four phases:

1. Preparatory works (12–16 October 2026)
• Measures: Setting up the construction site and erecting tree protection
• Traffic management: Work will take place during the day with traffic restricted to one side of the road.

2. Construction break to allow for the autumn half-term holidays (17 October – 26 October 2026)
• No traffic restrictions

3. Main works / asphalting at night (26 October – 1 November 2026)
• Exception: No work will take place during the night of 30 October to 31 October 2026.
• Measures: Due to a lack of alternative routes, the asphalting works will be carried out exclusively at night between 8.00 pm and 6.00 am.
• Traffic management: A full closure will be in place during the night-time works. During the day, the B 196 will remain open to traffic on two lanes at a reduced speed limit. The L 29 coming from Putbus
is closed at the junction with the B 196 both during the day and at night. Traffic is diverted from Putbus via the L 301 to Bergen and via the B 196 to Serams
.
• Public transport & emergency services: Special arrangements have been made for medical and emergency transport. The Vorpommern-Rügen Transport Authority (VVR) will operate a shuttle service
from 8.00 pm (details via the VVR hotline).

4. Follow-up works (from 2 November 2026)
• Measures: Removal of tree protection, refurbishment of bus shelters and completion of remaining works.

As the works are highly weather-dependent, closure times may be subject to short-notice changes. The Stralsund Roads Department will provide immediate notification of any changes.

Completion of the entire project is scheduled for the end of November 2026.
